Once a stronghold of Gondor, now a fortress of the kingdom of Rohan, Helm’s Deep was carved into the feet of the White Mountains, below the towering Thrihyrne.

The fortress of Helm’s Deep was named for Helm Hammerhand, past king of Rohan, who brought his people to the keep during the Long Winter. Built to endure, the Deep was nestled in a gorge, flush along the mountainside, and was a place where the people of Rohan could seek refuge for long periods of time, as was Théoden’s plan when he led the Rohirrim there in anticipation of Saruman’s attack. Spanning the valley was the Deeping Wall; a face of impenetrable stone, save for a small culvert at its base.

Saruman would send an army of ten thousand Uruk-hai to wipe out the woefully outnumbered Rohirrim, and while Théoden had reckoned on the stone of the stronghold to protect them, he had not counted on the cunning of the Wizard. Ladders and giant ballistae flung grappling hooks with which to haul them up against the Deeping Wall, whilst Uruk-hai armed with explosive devices targeted the small culvert at the wall’s base, breaching defences hitherto deemed impermeable.

While the fortress was under siege, Éowyn led Rohan’s vulnerable to shelter within the Glittering Caves of Aglarond, behind the Deep. Surrounded by shimmering crystals and mineral pools the refugees were forced to bide the conflict, not knowing the fate of their kin in the battle, or that which awaited them; for good or ill.

I had missed this piece when it initially had come out. Due to recent cancellations , i placed the order. Boy oh boy , just got it yesterday. It’s fantastic, so detailed . Unbelievable small detail, master piece. Better than Minas Tirith IMO. I blessed to have gotten this .

  2. A Masterpiece!!

I finally received my Helms Deep (860/937) and am nothing less than an awe of the sheer details all over the entire sculpt. Not only is it massive, but it's beautifully painted and "feels" like someone put their hand into the movie and ripped Helms Deep out and threw it in my display cabinet. Hats off to Leonard Ellis and the team, from the intricate sculpting all round. Like another review said here... the initial model was not exact, but the issues I had with this were resolved before they released it, and hats off to them for correcting these piddly things that for 95% of people would not have ever noticed. The only issue is the painting on the wooden door and the plates above it; they are way to dark... but I will be fixing that as I love tinkering anyway, and it kinda makes it just that little more custom. I 3d printed some 4-5mm archers horseback riders and extra bits and pieces to add into the scene..and under the correct lighting this statue makes for an absolutely mindblowing photoshoot!!... man.. lol.. if you haven't guessed already I LOVE this thing. I would shake the artists hands if I could. Thank you WETA.

  3. A great piece

This new Helm's Deep is a grandiose piece. We have the impression that the monument was cut out and detached from the mountain with its rear revealing the stables, the caves as well as the hall of the citadel.

There are just a few small defects, notably on the paint of the large door and an access which is blocked by a thin film of resin but nothing which prevents it from being corrected if you are a little handy, which is my case.

I welcome the fact that Weta listened to the messages and comments made by customers and fans on the architectural error present on the prototype and corrected it, which makes this environment more accurate. In fact, the horns of Helm's horn on the tower came down too low on the prototype and were shortened for the final product. which is a huge plus.

this looks amazing - I love it. Now to work out where and how to display it, without it getting constantly covered in dust - I'm thinking a large aquarium tank covering it.
