Beyond the village of Hobbiton the gentle green lands of the Shire were peppered with other hobbit dwellings: some clustered in hamlets and others standing alone. Some were typical hobbit burrows, dug into hillsides and banks, but where land was flat the small folk built above ground, roofing their homes and out-building with thatch.

The Maggot family maintained a large farm where they grew corn, cabbages, carrots and potatoes, among other vegetables. Farmer Maggot kept guard dogs to watch over his crops and alert him to intruders on his property, and with good reason.

Certain light-fingered Brandybucks and Tooks had made a habit of lifting tasty vegetables and mushrooms from his fields and outside his farmhouse, but it was an entirely different sort of visitor that startled him as he chopped wood, late one Autumn evening…

Because of the relationship we have with all the production parts of the process, we have access to everything from concept drawings to set plans, which is really handy when making things like the Hobbit Holes.

Leonard Ellis - Sculptor & Model Maker, Weta Workshop

Often requested, the Hobbit House of Farmer Maggot is Weta Workshop's very first Hobbit Hole from The Lord of the Rings! This gorgeous little environment has a flat back and shallow depth, making it ideal for placement on mantles, cornics, shelves, and in windows. You can even make like the Weta Workshop crew and get creative - why not build your own Hobbiton display?

Created by Weta Workshop model-makers Leonard Ellis and David Tremont, the Hobbit House of Farmer Maggot is an Open Edition piece.

Please note: This miniature environment was designed and prototyped here at the Workshop. Images are of a pre-production prototype. Each piece is hand painted and slight variations will occur.

  1. My first hobbit hole
I didn\'t plan on collecting hobbit holes, but I figured if I got one, it\'d ought to be this one. I liked the subtle role Farmer Maggot had in the films and thought it\'d make a nice desk ornament. I was right, and now I have Bag End (the open edition), along with nearly a half dozen others from the Hobbit line. This one inspired me to collect the others because its quaint, warm nature and welcome brightness on my desk.

  2. Here\'s to many more!
As soon as I saw a LOTR Hobbit hole, I had to order it, and like the previous Hobbit holes, this miniature does not disappoint! There is so much detail, it stands proudly with the rest of my collection. I hope WETA brings out more!
