A book series about model making, telling stories and having a lot of fun with that process. Writer, David Tremont, puts forward his passion for model making and how easy it can be if you are willing to learn. His silly sense of humour ties it all together showing that we can have a lot of fun with the process of Building Stuff and Telling Stories.

In this volume, I’ve continued to show the basics of making stuff, telling stories and having fun in the process. Some of the techniques are more complex and show very different ways to do stuff. There are no set rules, just ideas to build upon (no pun intended), expanding your own skill level.

Volume 4 is the final in this series of books and wraps up the ‘Origins’ story. This has been a five-year journey building these books, clocking up to 100-hour weeks as I still have a full-time job at Weta. It has been a brilliant learning curve and a great deal of fun making stuff. The final images in the last story are literally, us packing the models away for the last time. It is a little sad to let it all go, and although it has only been a couple of months since wrapping on this, I’m itching to start something new, a new story, a new book, an old joke.

When two pallets arrived here several years ago with volume 1, it was pretty exciting. I must admit though, two pallets with volume 4 just meant a lot of lifting to move them to storage, that part of the excitement has waned. With that, having the actual book in my hands is just as exciting as the first.

Five years ago, I imagined what it would be like to have a row of my own books on the shelf. I was learning how to do all of this and did struggle to imagine it could be real, but I pushed on and with the help of others, I figured it out. These volumes are not perfect, but they are done, and I am happy with them. I achieved what I started out to do and now I look up to the shelf to see four volumes sitting there. If any reading this want to create something of their own, I do hope that these volumes inspire, and I can now say with all honesty that the journey is worth it to accomplish something harder that you normally do.
