A quiet day’s fishing upon a humble raft; the gentle drift of water beneath a wide and watching sky; the sudden thrill of a line drawn taut, when an unlooked-for catch broke the stillness of the hour. In such things did Sméagol take his pleasure, and in the companionship of Déagol, dear to him in those earlier days. Glad was he then, and quick to laughter, even at the tug of a great fish upon their slender rod. For the world was yet untroubled, and their lives unshadowed. Ah, how simple were those days, before the Ring came upon them. How simple - and how swiftly lost.
There is a subtle importance to this moment, a fragile balance poised on the edge of change. Sméagol & Déagol: A Shadow of The Past captures that fleeting breath before fate takes hold, while the river still carries laughter and the world remains unbroken.
This Limited Edition 1:6 Scale Statue presents the scene as both memory and revelation. Above the waterline, Sméagol and Déagol drift upon their small boat, caught in the ease of companionship and the simple pleasure of the day’s catch. Beneath them, the unseen story unfolds. A great fish strains against the line, its motion drawing the eye downward through the clear acrylic surface that marks the river’s skin. There, half-buried in the silt, lies The One Ring™, waiting in silence.
The dual-layer composition is a deliberate feat of design. The transparent resin plane serves as both division and binding for the scene. Every element is in tension with another. The pull of the line, the tilt of the raft. It is a study in cause and consequence, rendered in sculptural form. This approach builds on techniques first explored in the Masters Collection: The Dead Marshes, refined here with greater clarity and narrative focus.
For the first time, Sméagol is depicted as he once was, before corruption took root. The likeness of Andy Serkis is carefully realised in this earlier, gentler form, offering a rare glimpse of the character untouched by the influence that would come to define him. It lends the piece a quiet poignancy, grounding the fantasy in something recognisably human.
This is a pivotal moment in the legendarium, the instant from which so much unravels. It is the beginning of a chain that echoes through every chapter that follows. To hold this scene in physical form is to hold the turning point itself, preserved with precision and care.
For collectors, this piece offers something distinct. A narrative told in layers, a technical execution that invites closer inspection, and a subject that carries deep significance. Opportunities to capture a moment like this are rare, and with a limited edition size, once it passes, it does not return.
