A young Gelfling warrior in the Castle of the Crystal, Rian aspires someday to be captain of the Guard, like his father Ordon. Brave and kind, he carries a deep love for his friend and fellow guard Mira, but a terrible discovery will turn his life upside down, tear his heart in two and see him flee his once carefree home, forsaking vows of service and family.

Beyond the castle Rian will be an outlaw, hunted through the riven wilderness to bury the dark truth he knows and preserve the cruel Skeksis’ rule. Vast distances he must travel, a conspiracy he must unmask, and new friends he must enlist if there is to be any hope for him and all who live in the world of Thra.

Rian the Gelfling joins Wētā Workshop’s exquisitely detailed line of Dark Crystal collectibles, a line that pays homage to the richly layered, fantastical world of Thra.

FEATURES:

  • 1:6 scale
  • Portrays an iconic character from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
  • Prototype by Wētā Workshop sculptor Steven Saunders
  • High-quality polystone
  • Faux-stone base with terrain designs inspired by The Swallow Bog

SPECIAL BASE DESIGN

The three different sized circular bases across our 1:6 scale Dark Crystal range represent the Three Suns in the skies of Thra; the dying sun, rose sun, and great sun. Familiar iconography from the floor of the Crystal Chamber are featured around the outside. Spy the symbols of the urSkek, which have since been appropriated as signs of discord and Skeksis aggression.

These collectibles were a dream to art direct. I feel like a Skeksis sitting at the banquet table, ready to feast on the amazing opportunities before me. There is so much to choose from!

Please note: images are of a pre-production prototype. Each sculpture is hand painted and minor variations will occur.

A NOTE ON OPEN EDITION COLLECTIBLES

Rian the Gelfling is an Open Edition statue, meaning it is not restricted to a specific number of reproductions. However, this does not guarantee Wētā Workshop will continue to produce the statue in the future. We recommend purchasing your Open Edition statue early, to avoid disappointment.

OUR DARK CRYSTAL COLLECTIBLES

So rich and visionary was Jim Henson’s 1982 passion project that it inspired dreamers across the creative arts, including a whole generation of film effects artists now working at Weta Workshop. Released at a time when many of our crew were young and beginning to explore their own creative energies, The Dark Crystal was an eye-opener: it was possible to bring imaginary worlds to life, and it could be a career! For years, those of us who had fallen in love with this world hoped that someday Thra might return to our screens. Thanks to Netflix, it has, and now we have the chance to express our fandom by creating super faithful, highly detailed collectible figures and prop replicas from The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

And this is just the beginning! More Dark Crystal collectibles are coming soon.

  1. Rian the Masterful
Lovely :-) Best of the smaller open editions received so far. The detail far outweighs any hesitations I had when I saw the lighter than prototype hair on another Weta Collector\'s statue.

Hefty base, an arm which is magnetised and a snug fitting pin to the base, it\'s all very good workmanship.

    Thank you Weta

  2. Not up to standard
I was very excited about this statue but words can’t quite sum up my disappointment with it now that I have it. The main issue with it is that the hair has been done red rather than the black that it should be. It makes the whole piece look cheap and nothing like the character that it is supposed to be. To add insult to injury, weta have said that they are not happy with the paint job and will be changing it for the second run. Where does this leave people who purchased the item going off what is displayed in all of the promo shots? Did nobody check the item quality before they were dispatched?

  3. Captures him perfectly!
When I first saw these figures I was astounded at how lifelike and true to character they were and I knew getting a sculpture from Weta would not disappoint because their work on Lord of the Rings was tremendously beautiful and detailed and Rian is no exception. I love how his cloak billows out and he is posed really naturally. His eyes shine and you feel like he will speak at any moment. The addition of his vial and coloured streaks in his hair just add to the stunning likeness. I am thrilled with him and cannot wait to receive the other Gelflings. Highly recommend, he is beautiful.

  4. Rian the brave
Recently I gave the show on Netflix a go since I never watched the movie at all growing up. I became an instant fan of the series after I binged all of the episodes followed up with my first viewing of the movie, so when I saw he was being made as a statue I had to get my hands on him since he is my second favourite character to Deet who I hope comes out soon!
He\'s great. Sturdy, detailed and well crafted from the show. I\'m a teensy bit off cause there isn\'t much teal to his hair but I\'m still happy nonetheless. Great job!

  5. It’s Rian!
When I first saw the pictures on social media of Rian I was shocked how reddish brown Rian’s hair was. Especially the ends. It looks much lighter than the pictures posted here that look almost black. Once I got my Rian and saw how awesome he looks the lighter hair color didn’t bother me. I’m not sure which pictures of Rian Weta used, but after watching the series and seeing pics of him; it looks like Rian’s hair at the end is reddish brown. His bangs were darker brown with teal highlights. Not details were left out anywhere else. The pose they chose looks like a picture taken from an action sequence. Dynamic and really fun. I was impressed by the magnetized arm that comes off with the sword. Well made and it won’t be falling off thanks to that magnet. Heavy figure. I’d recommend getting Rian if he comes back in stock.
