From New Line Cinema, Peter Jackson and Warner Bros. comes J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, brought to the big screen in an epic trilogy. Weta Workshop was thrilled to return to Middle-earth once again, contributing design, specialty props and specialty costumes to all three films.
Gifted to Kili by his mother, this labradorite stone bore six runes etched onto its polished surface: Return to me. A constant reminder of a promise he made before their quest began.
It is a talisman, a powerful spell lies upon it. If any but a dwarf reads the runes on the stone, they will be forever cursed, or not. Depending on whether you believe that kind of thing. It's just a token - a rune-stone. My mother gave it to me so I'd remember my promise.
Kili The Dwarf
Designed by the same artists and craftspeople who worked on The Hobbit trilogy, Kili's Rune Stone is made from polystone and painted to create the appearance of labradorite.
Product images are of a pre-production prototype. Each prop is painted by hand and slight variations will occur.
"Weight and colour are perfect...its dark colour allows it to have a genuinly beautiful look, just like in the movie. The words inscribed on it are "innikh dê" (which means "Return to Me") and it is carved elegantly by the artists."
Aslibayrak - Weta Collector
Weta Workshop’s authentic prop replicas are designed by the very same artists and technicians who work on our movies, using the same techniques and materials. We treat our prop replicas with the same level of care, quality and attention to detail that we bring to our film work.
My first addition to my LOTR/Hobbit collection!! A good reproduction of what you see in the movies, and at a very good price. Great paint job. Very happy with it!
It isn\'t as shiny as shown in the photos, and it weights less than you could expect, because of the material its made (some kind of resin). Although it could make it more resistant to an hipothetic fall, mine has a little bit imprinted the bag it came in\'s pattern in a part of the stone, so I can imagine you could deformate it by force. This is not a bad review, just extra info!! Again, I\'m very happy with the item.
You can see the amount of detail and care into making it, I am very happy with my rune stone, looks amazing like straight out of the film itself!!
Not far as good looking in real life as it does on the pictures but still a cool piece especially for it\'s price.
Good to clutch while watching the film!
Long - time fan of Middle Earth I had a specially intense craze a couple of years back and purchased this, may not have been as shiny or as colour-enhanced as I had expected but what you see is mostly what you get. Don\'t be surprised if it feels a little different in your hand than you might expect too (quite light), however I still feel I\'m holding the same stone as Kili and Tauriel when I\'m watching the films. Now for some Lord Of The Rings merch...
A great little piece of PJ\'s Middle Earth. Not something you immediately notice in a large collection but a nice little piece when you find it among the other collectibles.
A little bit of Middle-Earth
A beautiful piece of handiwork, my sister was very happy to have it for the New Year, thank you Weta!
Lovely Little Prop
It looks pretty identical to the one in the film, even though it's not made of real stone. Great prop for a great prize, that belongs to every Kili/Hobbit fan :)
The Hobbit Kili's Rune Stone
This Stone is not an ordinary stone its a rune stone. The carvings in the stone feels so amazing and the colour in the stone is beautiful i recommend buying this item
The stone is great. It is a little small but the stone itself is reat. The colour, weight and script look amazing.
This rune stone is beautiful and made me want to flip it up in the air and catch it over and over again. Great collection piece for the LOTR and Hobbit fan
When I visited Hobbiton I wanted something related to Kíli that was not really high in price. I found this and was happy. I like to keep it with me when I go out.
The perfect present
I actually bought three of these. One for myself, one for my best friend (the Kili to my Fili) and one for my other friend who actually cosplayed as my Kili one day. It's a beautiful little piece of art, I love having it in hand and playing around with it... =)
great collection piece
Before purchasing this item I read the reviews, and people are right to have mixed feelings.
The 'stone' has no real weight to it and it doesn't feel like its made out of the best quality materials. There are light scores across it to give it some texture and the 'deeper' marks (that appear in the photos) are painted on. The blue, teal and dark paint is lovely, the pearlescent finish really catches the light. The rune carvings are the best feature on this piece, they feel smooth, to touch and are perfectly clear at every angle.
If I could have, I would have given this item 3.5 stars, simply because of the material and I wish it had come with some sort of paper work. However, I bought this item regardless as the price is fantastic!
The shipping was surprisingly speedy to the UK, from the date of order it arrived exactly 2 weeks after.
I would recommend this as a collector, but be warned to expect *some* disappointment (especially if you have high expectations)
It is going to be a gift for my partner (along with the key of Erebor) and I know he will just love it.
ABOUT THE COLOR
On site they used lights so it looks much more blue. Its actually a color same as in the movie. And I actually like it more that way. It also has a nice weight. And ofcorse it has a little trade mark at the back. I uploaded some photos to my showcase.
Actually quite pleased
I must say that while the color is different than what's on the site, it is overall a really cool purchase.
The only issue I have is the trademark symbol location, it can be seen slightly on the rune side around the corner, but hardly noticeable if you have it propped up right if that's what you are aiming for.
As soon as I saw DOS I knew that I wanted Kili's rune stone and after watching BOFA I needed it! This replica is excellent, just gorgeous. Yes the colour is slightly lighter than the film version but it is solid, brilliantly crafted and you won't find a better replica anywhere. If you love the films and the representation of this stone then BUY IT! 5 stars!
Exactly what I wanted. It is slightly lighter then the movie one, but any lighter and the writing would be hard to see. Wonderful item, I plan to buy another.
5 stars to "Return to Me"
Weight and color are perfect. It's not as light blue as in the photo but dark color allows it to have genuine beautiful look just like in the movie. The words inscribed on it are "innikh dê" (which means "Return to Me") and it is carved elegantly by the artists. So, I'll definitely "return" to Weta Shop :)
Don't read a book by its cover
Yes the stone looks significantly duller than the picture and the stone itself looks dark but as true fans to the movie would know the stone that you recieve looks very similar to the stone in the movie , the excessive colour in the photo grabs your eyes indeed but watch the movie and you will see that the stone is true to it's form
good value for your $$
it doesn't look like the picture on the site, nor the one Kili & Taurel hold in the film. but for the price it is a good buy and I've put it at Kili's feel >=:)
This stone is amazing, I love it. The colour is perfect, everything's perfect, I only wish like it was like a legit stone but it feels nice. For the price is definitely worth purchasing.
good for the price
I wish Weta had made something a little more weighty/nicer, but for its cost it's a neat piece.
As for the color, I'm sure a lot of that has to do with lighting (and grading if you're comparing it to the actual film.) I've not seen mine in sunlight yet, but in warm, slightly yellow light it comes off a little greenish, rather than the blue blue of the picture.
But in the pinkish light of another room, one that turns my Captain America shield orange rather than the red it appears in sunlight, it looks like a sort of splotchy blue and pink. But not as gross as that sounds.
All in all, not a lot to write home about but I don't regret getting it. If you need another item to save on shipping or you just don't want to resist, I would not counsel against getting it.
Quite good value
It's true that the stone received isn't as blue as the image in its description, nor quite as dark as the one in the film - however for the low price, it's certainly a good addition to my collection. Mine also arrived very quickly, only a few days from New Zealand to the UK.
Not as blue as the image, but still well painted. There is some nice detailing; not very heavy but it has a good weight. Runes are clear and legible. Priced well and not a disappointing purchase.
The stone is definitely a bit darker than what the picture shows but it is still is a beautiful paint job. With the correct lighting, it looks absolutely fantastic and much more closely resembles the example pictures. The stone also has quite a bit of weight to it and does not feel cheap. Considering the low price of the replica I'd say it is a pretty good deal and I am definitely pleased.
I just received my rune stone and I am very happy with it. It is a blue, almost black color and the runes are well-etched. Thanks, WETA!
Kili's Rune stone
In the film, it is almost black or a dark grey. Sometimes I think the production details get lost somehow.
Not like the picture
The picture is of a beautiful blue faux labradorite rune stone that I had been lusting after since seeing it in the chronicles, but the one I received is pretty much grey with a few flecks of metallic blue spattered over it.
I respect that the image in the shop carries a caveat about being a production prototype, but they seriously need to update it to reflect the actual version they're sending out - especially since it's nothing like it.
The photos used in the store here are either of a much nicer prototype or have been touched up extensively to give more depth and colour. The "stone" feels very much like plastic and the paint is just speckled blue and silver with a light airbrushing of blue in a quick attempt to give it a bit of variation. Flat black lines are used to represent the dynamic streaks of the labradorite it is trying to replicate but the effect falls short of convincing. In certain light it looks like it has been rolled in glitter.
It looks okay from a distance and to be fair, not much more could be expected for such a price.
