Moria, famed Dwarf kingdom and mine wherein Mithril, rarest of Middle-earth minerals, snaked its way through the living roots of the Misty Mountains in rivers of silver.

Rivalling Erebor in its prime, the great Dwarf city of Dwarrowdelf was a celebration of the wealth and power of Durin's folk. But, as it would come to be understood in aftertimes, the Longbeards delved too greedily and too deep...

Far beneath the ground, tunneling for Mithril in sunless black rock, the Dwarves disturbed something that had remained safely entombed since ages past, a being of unfathomable terror, relic of a time of gods and giants, a creature of which like should never walk again in Middle-earth and for whom there were few equals remaining in the world: a Balrog of Morgoth. A demon composed of shadow and flame, the Balrog could be harmed by no blade or device of Dwarf design. By the hundreds, Durin's people and the Dwarf King himself fell before the beast, after named Durin's Bane.

When the Fellowship of the Ring sought to pass beneath the Misty Mountains and thereby thwart the attentions of the fallen Wizard Saruman, it was against Gandalf's grave misgivings, for the Grey Wizard suspected what haunted in the shadows of Moria. Secrecy alone might secure their safe passage, for if the Balrog were alerted, Gandalf knew their escape would only be bought at great price, and he would not again pass through the Dwarf realm's doors.

Our authentic prop replicas and collectibles are designed by the very same artists who have worked on the three films, so effectively they come straight from Middle-earth.

Please note: images are of a pre-production prototype. Each sculpture is hand painted and minor variations will occur.

Weta Workshop’s high-quality Middle-earth collectibles are designed by the very same artists and technicians who work on our movies. It takes 400-500 hours to design, sculpt, model make, mold, and paint the prototype for each new piece. Whether it be a prop replica, beautiful environment or iconic character, we treat our collectibles with the same level of care and attention to detail that we bring to our film work.

  6. What a disappointment!
I received this as a birthday present from my family in December. They bought it in September and I had been looking forward to it for many months. There are many problems with this very expensive product. First, the pins that connect the statue to the base are crooked and too long. The front pin measures at 22mm whereas the depth of the hole into which it is supposed to fit is 20.4mm. The back pin was 29mm whereas the length of the hole into which it was supposed to go was 25mm. The width of the other hole is 5mm whereas the thickness of the pin is over 6mm. In addition, both pins were crooked. I contacted WETA well before Xmas for a possible replacement but was told that they have closed for the holidays and I am yet to hear from them. My husband is now attempting to repair a product which cost close to £600, and his technical skills are the only thing that may save this product. I have bought many products from WETA over the years but never have I been so disappointed in both the product and the customer service. Shame on you WETA.

  8. Majestic piece to marvel at from a distance
This is an absolute monster. The sculpt is beyond epic - very detailed and dynamic. The paint-job is really great for the facial area aswell as the base but to me it lacks a bit on the rest of the body. The flame effect along the back seems sloppy (on mine at least - or their vision just doesn\'t fit my own). Either way a true center piece to my collection! Love it :)

  9. Fantastic Scupture!
This piece is a MIGHTY one, at 52 cm (20.47 inches) high it stands as a fantastic center piece of collections. I am mainly collecting premium format statues (1:4 scale or around 50-60 cm) and it blends in lovely, which I cannot say about a lot of statues.

One thing to mind though with it, and as I\'ve understood all Weta statues, is that the paintjob is not as good as shown. It is slightly exagerated but there are people who\'s done reviews on the piece where you can see what to expect.
I for one is going to repaint it, just because the sculpt is so damn good!

I recommend this piece if you\'re fine with a downgrade in the paint job from what is shown here, as I said twice - the sculpt is amazing.

  11. Go back to the shadows!!!
I was speechless when I received this statue, it came in 3 boxes just to secure the item. This is so far the most impressive statue I own, an iconic character of the original trilogy sculpted wonderfully! It has a lot of presence, the Balrog is changing its direction, looking to eliminate the fellowship at all cost. What a great job Weta did on this one!

  13. Dark beauty
Huge, fierce and imposing, this is the Balrog I've been waiting for. There is a lot of detail and texture in this beautiful sculpt.

Even the box it arrived in was huge, around the size of a beer fridge!

The only complaint I have is the paint job is not up to the standard of other high end 1/6 scale collectables which is a shame since the colour palette is simple and the areas of coverage is broad. In particular the flames are a weird mix of flouro orange highlighted with gold that photographs well but looks odd in the flesh and does not do justice to the incredible sculpt.

Fortunately I can repaint it myself, but I should't have to for the price. If I wasn't a hobbiest painter I would probably have to knock it down to 4 stars, but I love the model so much I can't bring myself to do it.

  14. What a beast!
Having this on pre-order since it was released, I was so excited for it to arrive. The first 'Rog that came had some issues - but the replacement I received is amazing. Really can't fault it. So epic in scale and looks great next to Azog!

  16. Servant of Morgoth
This is probably one of the best
pieces Weta ever have released! The detail, the sculpt and the paint job on the Balrog is simply amazing! Thank you so much Weta, for bringing a large scale Balrog statue to life.

  17. Broken tail
Just got both Balrogs, gorgeous pieces but one of the two has a broken tail and some chips. Very disappointing especially after the Barad Dur with broken pieces. Come on Weta!!

  19. The large and the small of it
Not one but 2 weta statues arrived on my doorstep. Baby Smaug and Grand daddy Rog. This makes the Balrog look even bigger. The box even made me smile. This thing is huge. I love the colouring and the pose ( some may say the flame effects are artificially orange , I personally think they look great). It was tricky to line up the mounting holes for the feet and the rear foot doesn't quite touch down on all points. This results in a small amount of wobble. The statues not going anywhere so shouldn't be problem. On the whole easily the most impressive piece in my collection and I have some impressive pieces. Now bring on Daddy Smaug.

  20. You shall not pass....
Up this opportunity to own this amazing piece. Simply awesome. Better than the original, that sells for heaps on trademe/eBay. His menacing pose sword in hand, ready for combat, his twisting body as he changes direction looking at his new target. The open mouth letting out such a violent and loud roar. Hats off to weta for bringing upon us this monster. He shall be displayed upon the top shelf, right up there with Sauron and Azog. Again simply amazing.
