Minas Ithil was the shining sister city of Minas Anor in the early days of Gondor. Built in the Mountains of Ephel Dúath as a watch upon Sauron’s land of Mordor, the city’s gleaming towers shone silver-white beneath the light of the moon after which it was named. But when Gondor’s power waned and the enemy rose again in strength, Minas Ithil fell and became the domain of evil things.

The Witch-king of Angmar descended and claimed the citadel as his keep. Halls once full of brave soldiers were haunted by Wraiths and their terrifying mounts. Orcs tore down the city’s structures and camped in its streets, their ugly, corroding fortifications encrusting its walls and staining once pristine bricks with black defilement. Under the gloom of Mordor’s darkened skies, a sickly green glow issued from the city, now renamed Minas Morgul, the Tower of Black Sorcery, and it became a place of dread.

Hoping to sneak past the City of Wraiths and thereby into Mordor, Frodo and his companions pick their way carefully by the gruesome stone sentinels guarding Minas Morgul’s causeway. Exerted by the Ring and with the Nazgûl so close, the Hobbit struggles to remain composed and not yield himself to their summons. Sam and Gollum must wrestle Frodo to the ground and away from the roadway even as the great black doors open and the Witch-king’s vast army pours forth.

MAKING MINAS MORGUL

Referencing the physical model of the original Minas Morgul bigature created by Weta Workshop for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, model makers Leonard Ellis and David Tremont recreated this miniature environment with exacting attention to detail: nine spikes protrude from the rusted eyrie, a perch for each Fell Beast; orc tents litter the streets; the Secret Stair, which Frodo and his companions climb towards Mordor, begins at the foot of the environment.

Two decades after he sculpted the causeway guards for the Minas Morgul shooting miniature, Weta Workshop sculptor Gary Hunt revisited the stone beasts, reducing the gruesome duo to microscopic size for the collectible.

Minas Morgul is the dark companion piece to Weta Workshop’s iconic Minas Tirith environment. This Limited Edition statue illuminates with a spectral green glow, replicating the iconic scene from the film. Plug your environment into the wall to cast the corpse-light from the Dead City.

FEATURES:

  • Unique LED lighting (universal power adaptor included)
  • Replica of the original film miniature, built by Weta Workshop for The Return of the King
  • Prototype model-made by Weta Workshop artists Leonard Ellis, David Tremont & Gary Hunt
  • Limited Edition
  • Made from high-quality polystone
  • Dimensions: 11" x 9.8" x 16.9" (W x H x D) 28 cm x 25 cm x 43 cm

Detail in miniatures is everything. The more detail that is put into a piece or section, the more it will appear like the real thing.

Weta Workshop: Celebrating 20 Years of Creativity

Please note: images are of a pre-production prototype. Each sculpture is hand painted and minor variations will occur.

It takes hundreds of hours to design, sculpt, model make, mold, and paint the prototype for each new Middle-earth piece. Whether it be a prop replica, beautiful environment or iconic character, we treat our collectibles with the same level of care and attention to detail that we bring to our film work.

  1. Loss for Words
    I...

I want to give you bit of my backstory: a long, long time ago, Weta released the collectors box of The Return of the King, that included the mini Minas Tirith statue. Inside was an order slip for it\'s counterpart; Minas Morgul. I however, did not have a credit card. Oof. I was not able to get it. It was forever in the back of my mind as I have an indescribable love for Minas Morgul. (You know that one scene in the movie where the Witch King and Fell Beast fly up from the depths of the Dead City? Yeah. Bloody goosebumps and uncontrollable emotions. - My all time favorite movie scene.)

Years later I searched the web for that particular statue. The ones that were available were way too expensive (I KNOW they are rare, but 3x the price hurts.) So I kept hoping and praying Weta would one day decide to make it again...

That day finally came. I CRIED.

I cried again when it was delivered. And then I cried when it was out of the box. I have NO words for this masterpiece. The details, the volume, the LIGHT! It is worth every single penny, and even though my wallet wept for a bit, she now tells me she has no regrets! I have no space yet, but I will display this enormous (because it really is!) beauty with my Fell Beast bust (maybe in front of it), with my Minas Morgul poster behind it.

Details: the tower comes separate and it\'s put in place without pins (I think magnets), as it\'s delicate. / You can dim the light to your preference. / The small details are beautiful! / The water looks realistic af

  2. A must have to your collection!
A great piece created by Weta, thank you! The size, the illuminating green light to give us that feel of the evil that arises, the water feature and material used is amazing and really sets it off. A little artwork gift was also included which was a great touch too. Very disappointed with shipping cost of £150.00 plus customs charge of £200.00! Shipping and customs was like paying for my Minas Morgul all over again, that hurt. Something should be done for those that live in the United Kingdom. A better deal on shipping and customs please.

  3. Minas Morgul is Amazing piece of art, on par with earlier Minas Tirith
Amazing details, great architectural sculpture. Having both Minas Tirith and Minas Morgul side by side in my display room making them the perfect opposing fortresses for the good and evil. The initial smell of the paint was a little strong but it totally went away after few days of display. No major concerns. If you like Wetaworkshop environment series, you will fall in love with this one. Weta did it again, the company that creates the best environment sculptures.

  4. Awful
I must of received an absolute dud, because between the awful painted plastic parts, to the entire crookedness of the main tower, the smell of spray paint, and sadness - i cant see this worth my 700 usd. I am returning.

  10. Love it
This amazing new statue arrived in my collection on Monday and I gotta say weta you\'ve done it again its absolutely beautiful it\'s gotta go into my top 3 of my weta statues, and I\'ve got over 25 of them now. The level of detail is stunning the only thing that could have made it better was maybe a nazgul on a fell beast perched on one of the towers, but I absolutely love this piece
