From New Line Cinema, Peter Jackson and Warner Bros. comes J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, brought to the big screen in an epic trilogy. Weta Workshop was thrilled to return to Middle-earth once again, contributing design, specialty props and specialty costumes to all three films.

In a hole in the ground there lived a Hobbit. A night of fright, he certainly got it. Our tricksy crew came out to play, leaving the garden in disarray.

As diverse as the rosy-cheeked Hobbits themselves, every smial, as Hobbit-holes are known, reflects the unique personality of its inhabitant and nestles into the hillside amid a sea of lush greenery.

Below Bag End a narrow path snakes its way around the Hill through thick green grass, past hedgerows and fruit trees. Halfway down Hill Lane a tall brick chimney and (usually) daisy-yellow door mark the entrance to number 16, a modest but tidy hobbit abode with an outlook over the Water toward the Green Dragon Inn.

HOBBIT HOLE – HALLOWEEN EDITION

From the team that helped bring Middle-earth to the big screen, comes a range of Hobbit dwellings that depart from typical decorum. To celebrate Halloween, Weta Workshop have decked out 16 Hill Lane with a productive pumpkin patch, guarded by a scarecrow that may take on a life of its own. Trick-or-treaters beware.

It was fun to ask ourselves, ‘how would a Hobbit celebrate Christmas or Halloween?’ We selected our favourite smials and put our own spin on the Shire.

Please note: This miniature environment was designed and prototyped here at the Workshop. Images are of a pre-production prototype. Each piece is painted by hand and slight variations will occur.

Festivities fit for Hobbits! The Holiday Edition Hobbit Holes lend themselves splendidly to creative placement alongside other festive decorations. With a flat back and shallow depth of only 55mm, they can be placed on mantles, cornices, shelves and in windows.

This special edition environment may be snaffled up quicker than sugar-filled sweets. Better stake your claim early.

  1. A long way from the product photo
    Quality
    40%
I will try to return this piece, for several reasons. First - it's much smaller than I realized, even though I did estimate its size before I bought using a ruler. Second - the door is set very deep into the piece, and not much light hits it. That makes the door hard to see, and it's supposed to be the focal point. But third - the big reason is that the jack o'lantern's eyes and grin are so poorly done that if you didn't know what it was, you wouldn't recognize it. The eyes are much smaller and fainter than the product photo, and the grin isn't a grin at all, it's a faint, straight-ish squiggle that has lots of skips in it. I realize handmade pieces will vary, but the door is just nowhere near the quality pictured. The rest of the piece is lovely, but the door ruins it for me.

  2. Pumpkins
I got this because I loved the pumpkins out front. I\'m going to have it out during all seasons because every day can use a spice of this hobbity spook

  3. BOO!
Just arrived yesterday. What a wonderful idea and a great little Hobbit hole! As usual, the attention to detail is fantastic. Will be on display in our house every Halloween.
