Winner of seventeen Academy Awards, The Lord of the Rings was brought to the big screen by New Line Cinema and directed by Peter Jackson. Weta Workshop was intrinsically involved in the design and physical effects manufacture for all three films. Nine years later, Weta Workshop was thrilled to revisit Middle-earth with Peter Jackson once again, this time for The Hobbit motion picture trilogy.

From the majestic peaks of the Southern Alps to the rolling hills and Volcanic Plateau of the North Island, the world of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit was stunningly re-created on an epic scale, right here in our homeland – New Zealand.

This book features the best from Ian Brodie’s ‘The Lord of the Rings Location Guidebook’ and ‘The Hobbit Motion Picture Trilogy Location Guidebook’ alongside new images; taken by the photographer himself, Sir Peter Jackson and other members of the films' cast and crew.  Middle-earth New Zealand is a fascinating record of a film-making process, and beautiful collection of landscaped location photography.
