From New Line Cinema, Peter Jackson and Warner Bros. comes J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit, brought to the big screen in an epic trilogy. Weta Workshop was thrilled to return to Middle-earth once again, contributing design, specialty props and specialty costumes to all three films.
Every great adventure needs a treasure map and in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the map was created by Thror, grandfather of Thorin Oakenshield.
It contains not only the lay of the land, but also detailed instructions. Some clear as day, some concealed.
Designed and drawn by Daniel Reeve of the 3Foot7 art Department who created the original prop for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
Our authentic prop replicas and collectibles are created by the very same artists who have worked on the three films, so effectively they come straight from Middle-earth.

Weta's map has been made from a scan of the original and printed in Middle-earth (New Zealand) on the finest Italian Marina Conchiglia parchment paper.
Thorin's Map - Parchment Art Print is a treat to behold and the die-cut edges add to the feeling of authenticity.
The famous Moon Runes that play an important part in the story have been printed in a layer of high gloss varnish on the otherwise matt surface.
This is almost impossible to see in the product photographs and even to the naked eye it can be hard to spot, but in the right light they're visible and legible.
The copyright info and Weta logo detract from an otherwise fantastic replica experience. It would feel more like the genuine article if this information was printed on the back. I'll carve out the bottom part, but will have to figure out a way to hide the Weta logo. Otherwise, it's wonderful piece at a reasonable price!

Awesome map
Masterful print, nice realization of the moon-runes, the maps edges are beautifully aged and the material fits perfectly. Order arrived in a sturdy tube within 17 days. German custom fees were handled by DHL and collected at the post office.

Significantly better than I expected
I really shouldn\'t have been surprised by the quality of this item when it arrived (and months earlier than I was initially led to believe) but I certainly was! It\'s a magnificent purchase for this price.
I thought that it might feel a bit cheap and tacky, however I can confirm that it feels exactly like you hope it would and little touches like creases and stains add to the feeling of authenticity.
I also feared that it would be black on the back, however it is the exact same colour as the rest of the map.
Simply put you will not be disappointed when it arrives.

Bought this one a few years back and all I can say is that it is truly amazing even with the barely visable moon runes which is a nice touch!
My only problem with is (why I don\'t give it 5 stars) is the fact that the watermark of Weta is so visable on the map, I understand why it\'s there but is just on such a ill place for me.

Great Art, but...
This is a great piece of art, and I intend to frame it for display, however, buyers in the UK should beware the £12.09p Royal Mail International Handling fee (The charge itself is £8, but at over 50% VAT the total is £12.09).
I should add that this is the first time I've been charged this when ordering from WETA.

Not bad
I wish that the parchment was a little bit thicker, but it's a good print. The only thing that really bugged me was the license logo, which really stands out to me. There's an entire blank back they could have put that on.
Tip for you guys--if you carefully fold it along the folding lines, it looks much nicer and more legit. I intend to frame it, but it still gave it a lovely touch to look as if it'd actually been used.

It's a great looking print of the original map for sure! Something you definitley want to pick up if you don't have the budget to get the "prop" version of it. Pick up the key to Erebor while you're at it!

Great quality print
This is a lovely print, which has already gotten framed. It has only two drawbacks, one of which might knock it down a half point. Namely the legalese printed along the bottom, necessary, but not beautiful. Second, it isn't the handcrafted version. Otherwise perfect.

Althought it is the cheaper version of the iconic map , it is a fantastic piece of collection.It cames rolled in a quite wide tube so when you get it , it is almost not curved.It cames very well protected and ready to be framed.Another Daniel Reeve piece of art!

Just received Thorin's map in the mail today. Wow! What a great prop. Really well done, quality parchment paper, excellent detail. Aged and distressed like a well used map should be. Can't wait to mount this. All in all, well worth the money.
