In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.

Bright round doors in summery hues dot the lush, grassy hillsides of Hobbiton like wildflowers. Behind each doorway, comfortably appointed burrows wind into earth: each one home to a hobbit, or a family of the Shire’s rosy-cheeked little-folk.

Every hobbit-hole is unique, expressing the personality of its inhabitants with colour, gardens, furniture and the rustic debris of everyday life.

Across the stream from the Green Dragon Inn in Hobbiton, Ted Sandyman’s mill perches on the water’s edge next to a stony bridge. Behind its blue door, gears driven by the steady turning of a water wheel grind grains for the making of bread; a favourite food no Hobbit accustomed to the comforts of the Shire can long go without.

Because of the relationship we have with all the production parts of the process, we have access to everything from concept drawings to set plans, which is really handy when making things like the Hobbit Holes.

  1. Great model!
I bought this one to built my collection of Hobbiton moments in relation to the photo\'s I took with various holes and buildings while in Hobbiton in 2020.
The bridge, and the Mill on the background, was one of my highlights during the visit.

The Mill building in this model is great! Not exactly like the Mill on my photo\'s but no big differences.
The bridge in this model however was painted in almost one colour, unlike the real bridge (and unlike all the photo\'s of the model I could find on internet). The one colour makes the model as a whole look a bit flat. Fortunately, after telling Weta Workshop they took responsibilty and solved it in a satisfying and friendly way (no... no new model or my money back).

The Mill building, the details of the boat with the fishing net and all the green compensate for the Bridge in my opinion and so it still looks very good in my collection, bringing back all the beautiful memories of my visit.

  2. On par with Bag End
This is an excellent environment, with so much detail and at a good size — not too big or too small. It fits in great with my slowing growing Hobbiton community. So iconic. Well done, Weta.
