The Lord of the Rings trilogy won seventeen Academy Awards. Wētā Workshop was intrinsically involved in the design and physical effects manufacture for all three films.

NAZGÛL AHUNT

By Gus Hunter
Dimensions:
23.22" x 11.69" x 0.03" (W x H x D) 59 cm x 29.7 cm x 0.1 cm
Weight: 0.22 lbs (0.1 kg)

Relentless in their pursuit of the bearer of the One Ring, the Nazgûl take to the skies of Middle-earth, born on the leathery wings of fell beasts. A piercing croak from the toothy creature and shrill scream of the hunting wraith shred the still air of the Dead Marshes, sending Frodo and his companions diving for cover.

Sauron’s intent is single-minded and unceasing, channelled through the husks of his dead servants. The Nazgûl are but hollow instruments of his will, his hands at work in the world: find the One-Ring. Leave no place untouched, no land unseen. Return the Ring to the grip of its shadowy master.

There are people of extraordinary talent operating in today's world that have similar skills as the great masters of yesteryear. It just happens to be that the canvas that they paint on is the darkened screen of the cinemas of the world.

Richard Taylor - CEO & Co-founder, Wētā Workshop

Long-time Wētā Workshop conceptual designer Gus Hunter interprets the hunt for the Ringbearer through the skies of Middle-earth. Hunter joined Wētā Workshop during The Lord of The Rings trilogy, coming full circle to return to that world twenty years after The Two Towers first came to the silver screen.

I worked in an art printing shop for years, so I am used to seeing printed art on paper, canvas, metal, etc. For $50 I expected a better, high res, quality print. Most of the image is washed out and blurry. It's fine from five feet away, but if you view it up close it loses its appeal, unfortunately. I had hoped to order more prints after receiving this piece but will now pass.

(The actual image is wonderful--all props to the artist. A shame the printing folks bungled it.)
