Public Eye was New Zealand's version of the UK satirical puppet show Spitting Image.
Richard and Tania manufactured the puppet caricatures of New Zealand's politicians of the day. This was their first decent break after a string of commercials and documentaries.
They had produced the original trailer in the basement of the flat which they were sharing with fellow workmate Clive Memmot. When the show was picked up they moved into a bigger workshop where they produced 72 puppets over the next eighteen months for the Producer, Dave Gibson of the Gibson Group.
Richard sculpted them completely in margarine and Tania molded, latexed and painted them while Clive built all the eye mechanisms out of roll-on deodorant balls.
