Studied model making and then Production Design at the National Film School in Ireland. Came to New Zealand after qualifying and worked as a designer in Wellington theatre. Started work at Weta after Production Designing a short film, Eel Girl which was filmed at the Workshop.
I would recommend anyone wanting to work in the film industry to try and get as much experience as possible even when it means working for free.

Mary,
I also have moved to New Zealand with the dream of getting into the industry. I have a background in interior design/architecture. Ever since doing a couple of internships with theatre company's set design & art departments, it has been my dream to do that work for film and television. I truly love model making both physical and virtual, the design really seems to come to life at this stage. I don't know if you ever take on assistants, or have any role in hiring people for your team, but I would love the opportunity to work with you. I am a very hard worker, and have never been given a job to big or small that I have not given my very best effort towards. I will do any job in order to get my foot in the door. My CV and examples of my work can be seen at http://www.wix.com/kimdavenport/portfolio-page.
-Cheers, Kim Davenport Hide.
