WETA BUG SCOOP: 21 Sept 07 We've been designing concepts for Radical Publishing's Hercules project, check out the artwork!

We have created a range of Concept Designs for the Radical Publishing comic book, Hercules. In Radical?s version of Hercules, written by Steve Moore, the gods are a supernatural force beyond our comprehension. The union of the two produced Hercules, but the two species do not mix, driving him to berzerker rages where his non human half is in control.

Designer Greg Broadmore explains the inspiration for this illustration: "This illustration was the first I did of Hercules and was really quick to do which is always fun. It's actually a personal favourite of mine because it says everything it needs to with the least effort."

"I drew him using this multi barbed club that he is sometimes depicted with in ancient pictures. It's quite a cool weapon for a hero because it's such a brutal, simple thing. It really says that he doesn't waste time. I have him standing in front of a defeated foe, which is kind of an ongoing theme of these illustrations. The hidden subtext is that he killed that dude!"

The designs for Radical Publishing are based on a dark story from the life of Hercules after he has completed his famed twelve labours. Blatant Pictures owns Radical Publishing, and they are developing a motion picture project based on this Hercules story.
