24 Aug 07 Our very own Daniel Falconer is heading along to this years' Ring Con 07!

Ring Con has been running now for six years and is reputed to be the LOTR convention not to be missed. This year the show returns to the Esperanto Hotel, Fulda, Germany for three days in October (12th-14th).

Our very own Weta Workshop designer Daniel Falconer will be attending RingCon and giving a handful of audio-visual presentations on his work on the trilogy.

Daniel says he is really looking forward to attending the Con. "I've heard so much good buzz about Ring Con from both past guests and attendees", he says. "I can't wait to go. It sounds like one big 3-day Middle-earth party!"

Daniel spent seven years working on The Lord of the Rings, designing armour, weapons, creatures, props and costumes (pictured, above). With a degree in graphic design, majoring in illustration, Daniel has an enthusiasm for world design and the development of imaginary cultures and creatures as a means to tell stories.

He also has a deep knowledge of Tolkien's Middle-earth, thanks to an avid interest in the books and associated materials, which frequently proved useful on the project. This lead to Daniel also being involved in writing copy for Weta's licensed collectible product from The Lord of the Rings, a role that continued alongside his design responsibilities in the years that followed.

Since The Lord of the Rings, Daniel has contributed design work for various projects including King Kong, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Avatar. In 2005 he collated and wrote copy for Weta's first book, The World of Kong, A Natural History of Skull Island, (now sold out!), showcasing the illustrative work of the entire design department.

Other confirmed guests this year include: actors Karl Urban (?omer), John Noble (Denethor), Mark Ferguson (Gil-Galad), Thomas Robins (D?agol), Lori Dungey (Mrs Bracegirdle), Johnathon Harding (Erestor/Dinendal), Kiran Shah (Frodo scale double & stuntman), Mana Hira Davis (stuntman) and many more including Tolkien experts and scholars.
