20 Aug 07 Wellington gallery, TheNewDowse, has just had its 100,000th visit, and they're saying its largely in thanks to the King King exhibition!
Did you know that over 100,000 people have passed through TheNewDowse since it opened its doors in mid-February!? That?s more than twice the number of people who visited The Dowse in an equivalent period prior to the recent $6.25 million dollar re-vamp by Athfield Architects.

TheNewDowse Director Tim Walker says exhibitions such as Becoming King Kong have helped to keep the visitor numbers rolling in recent weeks. ?Since the opening of Becoming King Kong in late June we have had over 35,000 people through the doors. Over the school holiday the galleries were absolutely humming with people taking advantage of this rare, free opportunity to see the marquettes, models and digital wizardry that went into making King Kong.?

Walker says before the re-vamp, The Dowse?s visitor numbers averaged around 95,000 a year. He attributes TheNewDowse?s popularity to the fact that its diverse and edgy exhibitions appeal to a wide variety of people.
The King Kong exhibition will run until 18 November, so there's still time to head along and check it out. For more information on the exhibitions and for news updates see www.newdowse.org.nz
