9 July 07 This Concept Illustration from Designer Christian Pearce leaves you wondering ... is it really safe to swim in Skull Island?

This piece, by Christian Pearce, was an example of how concepts for movies come about. Christian worked on versions of this creature for months, and this image is just one version of the creature.

The creature wasn't used in the final film, but in the case of the Concept Designer, it's all about the process rather than the finished product, to tell the story the Director has envisaged. Christian explains: "This guy was one of the many variations of the Swamp Scorpion thing that I slaved over for a year and a half that ended up getting cut out of the film. That guy's design went around the block a bunch of times before being finalized."

"The last few stages of his design were very much directed by Peter Jackson, and although I was doing the drawings I can't take too much credit for how he ended up. You can see him in the extended DVD if you're interested - the bug that is, not Peter Jackson. Although I think he's in there somewhere too..."
