Jane as a warrior
Jane the great

11 June 07 Before Jane and the Dragon's red haired lead's outfit was decided, the crew had a great time exploring costume designs. Here are some never seen before sketches.

Concept Artist Frank Victoria worked on the project for a number of months before production to brainstorm sketch ideas.

Frank says he used a combination of influences to create these pieces. "I looked for reference in the books in the medieval genre", he says. "Certain elements of images inspire me, which helped me compose these images."

"We used a technique we call the 'Jane-ify' process in those days. What this means is that we imitate the style of Jane in certain ways to make the image look 'Janey'. Certain things are simplified. For example, as she is a Knight in waiting, we needed her to look able to be an action girl, to be able to jump on dragon and move around the castle."

"Theses are more quick sketched ideas for different costume ideas following Theo Baynton and John Craney's art direction. Theo wanted Jane to maybe wear some bits armour permanently, while John wanted her to wear "court" clothes and keep a full suit of armour for special occasions (like war!). We had to remind the viewers that she was a Knight!"
