Hercules [1993-1999]

1993-1999

For six and a half years, Weta Workshop was involved in supplying creatures and special make-up effects for the Hercules television series and associated television features (Hercules: the Legendary Journeys, Hercules and the Amazon Women, Hercules and the Circle of Fire, Hercules in the Underworld, Hercules in the Maze of the Minotaur) produced by Renaissance Pictures.

Working on this show was fantastic for Weta's technicians, as it honed their skills in the process of making fast turn-around television. The variety of creatures and characters, created on a monthly basis, not only supplied a constant workload, but also provided a great creative outlet. It allowed Weta to increase its crew and train up many people who have remained with them to become the creative and technical backbone of the company.

Weta worked closely with the producer of Hercules, Eric Gruendemann, and the years they spent on the show have been some of the most enjoyable of their careers.
