A wonderfully expressive piece of art depicting Gandalf at battle with the Balrog. All of the power and majestry of the wizard is on full display in this expertly sculpted piece by Gary Hunt. At over 24" in height the bronze sculpture is an impressive piece. Cast in the traditional lost wax process, each piece is individually crafted to the highest standards by experienced bronze craftsmen. Gandalf's cloak has a special acid washed patina that gives the piece a unique but subtle shading. The statue is engraved with its edition number as well as the signature of the sculptor. Each piece is mounted on a solid marble base that raises it's overall height to 27".

This sculpture is bearing all the magic power of Gandalf, especially during the duel with the Balrog of Morgoth at the bridge of Khazad-Dûm. It is a unique artwork and truly detailled made, with the exact mimic of Sir Ian. I am so proud to own #7 now, which I recently bought from a British Artseller. I think, if JRR Tolkien was still alive, he would so much appreciate what all the people at WetaNZ have achieved. Hide.

This sculpture is an amazing achievement not merely for its accurate likeness to Ian McKellen's manifestation of Gandalf the Grey, but especially for its dynamic form offering a feast of eye-appeal from any and every angle. What Gary Hunt has accomplished with the frock and flowing cloak is nothing short of artistic wizardry. The outstanding patinas used to achieve the varied coloration also merits high praise. And here's a tidbit for those who have seen only this lovely picture of the prototype -- there was an initial production delay during which time the sword shown here was refabricated into an exacting replica of Glamdring. Very nice! Sir Ian proudly claims ownership of sculpture #1 in the edition, and I can assure everyone that am equally proud to have #8 in the edition as my very own -- a sculpture sure to go down in history among LoTR artworks as an item to be prized as highly the Arkenstone itself was among all the hoarded treasures of Smaug the Golden!
