The most elegant of ray guns, the most devastatingly unpredictable in effect, the most twisty and spikey... How, I wondered, could Grordbort Laboratories and F.M.O.M. Industries ever successfully make a miniature version of this fantastic weapon?

Well, they have, in a modern miracle of marvelous miniaturisation. As lethal as the full size version, to both user and target, although obviously with less power and a reduced singeing of hair. Being 4 times smaller, it only has 1/64 of the volume and so has a much increased operating frequency of around 35,000 Hz, above the range of human hearing, rendering the tuning fork accessory unnecessary, but driving any nearby dogs into a narcoleptic frenzy.

It has a beautiful metallic gun-metal finish, tastefully highlighted with areas of rust to reflect the age of this item. All of the pointy bits are there, and the aether pressure gauge is well realised. Most of the highly twisty tubing is added on, not just moulded to the body, and is made from suitably copper-coloured metal wire. As in the full size weapon, the handle is slightly darker, and is bedecked with the F.M.O.M. logo. The only complaints I have are that the blue of the phlogiston phial is too dark, and I have a spot of copper paint on the body, but this really is a beautiful little piece, highly recommended to all Grordbort's enthusiasts. Being a Lord of the Rings collector, I would probably never have bought this Raygun myself. Boy, am I glad Weta decided to give me one after creating a profile here!

The paintjob and detail on the F.M.O.M. wave disrupter are magnificent: the copper wiring, bolts, gauges and rust stains really finish it off.

The artists of Weta have once again shown the top of their game! Hide.

I love this gun. Took me a while to get the resources together but it's a great addition to the slowly growing collection. And once I realised it's reinforced with pure Tremontium, I couldn't wait any longer. Curiously, but probably unrelated, the household pets don't want to come close to it.

This gun looks deadly from both ends - no matter if you're aimer or aimee. Perhaps that's why the glossy brochure can claim "make aiming a thing of the past".

The packaging was perhaps a bit overdone - I had to contend with a cardboard box, a second carboard box, a plastic cover, a plastic base, three metal wires, various bits of foam, tape, more foam, and more tape. My other two were a bit simpler to extract from the box, I remember! Still, with all the extra prongs, antennae, and sticky-outy bits, it's probably for the best.

Looking forward to whatever the good Doctor brings out next!

I'm not certain it was wise or advisable to make such weapons available for 1/4 scale people - but what's done can't be undone.

This is crazy - even the little dial which is barely 1/8th of an inch diameter is painted like the big one (less the dial markings) and the tubes are so thin it would take steady hands indeed to assemble. Such a marvel, very impressive. Artist recommended, and for those with less extensive budgets. Hide.

I can't believe how much detail there is in this liitle guy. It came very well packaged and it displays beautifullly. To show it I have it on it's stand in front of the box that it came in - The Mini F.M.O.M. is a neat liittle piece. Hide.

The F.M.O.M. was always my favourite of the three original Rayguns, and since the limitations of my wallet kept me from purchasing the full-size version, the 1/4 size was a godsend!
Though it's considerably small, the detail on the raygun is absolutely incredible. Every little bolt, and even some of the fine tubes that I thought they would ommit appear in perfect detail. This purchase does not fail to impress. Hide.
