Alex came from a Degree in graphics and Design at AUT, then a stint sign writing/graphic design at the Sign Factory in Masterton.

3 years later, Alex got on with sorting a portfolio for Weta.

"A year of waiting and I was in! They haven't gotten rid of me yet so I must be doing something right!"

"These days I shift between Model Making, Props Building, Poly Carving, a bit of computer stuff, Moulding... Basically anywhere I am needed. I learned early on that a diversity of skills can equal a certain amount of job security. This has seemed to work out fairly well me as well as keeping the job interesting!"

"Highlights for me personally has been carving the reading cinema Fell Beast Head and details - first carving job; Fairly steep learning curve; And detailing the Warthog for the Halo Shorts - it's just an awesome machine, and heaps of fun to work on."

Advice? Learn heaps of skills - my day can start on a computer, then onto a Plasma Cutter, then a bit of Welding, off to the Wood Lathe, and finally a bit of Fine Model-Making. And just go for it! - Mistakes are vital to learning, just only make them once!"
